Born Tracy Harris, and now Tracy Flack and affectionately known as TraLyn has been on the singing scene for some years now. She began singing in church with the youth choir at about 7 years old and she sang her first solo while being a part of that choir. Tralyn has stated that she knew she wanted to sing almost from birth. In the 1st grade she would play with toys, often alone during play time and set the toys up like a choir and pretend they were singing. Music has always been an integral part of her life and her desire as a child was to grow up and be a music teacher. Tracy continued her love for music and also sang in the Angell Elementary school choir.
During her tenure at McMichael Middle school, Tracy Harris, affectionately known as Tralyn, trained under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Dowdell and was a soloist for many of the concerts and events held at the school. One of her first solos and favorite songs to sing was “If you believe”, from The Wiz. She also sang Endless Love with a male student and many other tunes.
In High School, Tralyn studied under Brazael Denard, Mr. Owens and Gloria Hicks and began her training in classical music. During her tenure at Northwestern High School, she learned how to read music and was known for being able to sing all parts including soprano, alto, contralto, and tenor. She even knew the bass part but of course her voice was not that deep.
As an adult, Tralyn has continued her love for music and she has released a few songs which include, Born to Win, You Were There, and her latest single that she wrote for her husband for their anniversary, Standing Here With You.
Tralyn loves to sing with a live band and she has performed all over the metro Detroit area at well known venues including the oldest Jazz Club in the world…..Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. She has also performed at the Detroit Casinos with the group, Phase 5, local bars/venues, and she does private events. She also stays faithful to her first love, Gospel and also is a Praise & Worship leader.
Tralyn has the vocal stylings of various artists and many of her favorites are Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Phyllis Hyman, and none other than the late great Minnie Ripperton. These amazing women have inspired her throughout the years, but they are just a few of the many artists who have encouraged her to continue singing.
In addition to singing, Tralyn is also a writer and she wrote every song she released and she writes poetry. She also sang all of the background parts on each song. Last but not least, Tralyn has performed in plays including Spare Change, where she sang and played and elderly lady and Perilous Times. Tralyn’s passion for singing shows through her performances. She has a very sultry and soulful voice and anyone who experiences her as an artist, will be moved by her gift.
